If you're "from away", you may be wondering: what the heck is a Ceilidh?

Pronounced "Kay-lee", Ceilidh is a Gaelic word used to describe a community cultural gathering that traditionally included music, dancing, poetry and story-telling. They were equally popular in both Scotland and Ireland.

Today, Ceilidhs are a part of the rich Scottish heritage of Cape Breton. Mostly involving music and dancing, they can be found all over the Island. Fiddle and piano music figures prominently, as does guitar and "spoons".  A pint or wee dram are also common fixtures at Celidhs!
